And Another Thing!

Yesterday's rants as evidenced by my facebook feed:
If glaxo smith kline gets to make feature-length advert... 'documentary' about how its product, (with an unbelievable, beyond-satire list of gnarly side effects), is best, and political campaigns just became an official commodity, we've got the drugs covered, the funding of glitz and sexual deviations is covered, WHERE THE FUCK IS THE ROCK + ROLL!

Oh right. That's my end of the bargain. Stock up on panties and lighters, folks. I WILL NOT FAIL YOUZ!

and then four hours and some more NPR later...
And another thing! Have y'all seen how the list of side effects for drugs takes the lion's share of the commercial length and far surpasses any attempt at satire? They are asking people to pay huge sums of cash to maybe die very unpleasantly because it COULD make you feel better. Let's suppose that art was allowed a FRACTION of that legal leeway? Artists! Let's step up to the plate. People are willing to suffer intensely to maybe feel better. We can definitely help them with that, am I right!

So a major pharmaceutical company gets featured at Sundance Film Festival. I view this as a blatant breach of medium. Maybe artists should start making up some different stuff for people to ingest that might kill them or at least make them shit their pants. So politicians get mad funding and will get as much moral backlash as Ms. Spears for transgressions. Oh wait, that already happens; men's bathrooms, hired escorts, spooj on blue dresses, etc.

So the politicians are rock stars, the athletes are rockstars and the real rockstars are giving it away for free online.
Tragedy only makes good news if there is "looting" and "unrest". (I listened to this newswoman on the BBC HARPING on this correspondent to give some evidence that people were going lord of the flies)

SMILE BITCHES! It's ALL showbiz NOW!

Welcome to the 20TWEENS!

BEIGE: the saga continues

A year and a half ago, found myself living in the oil to my water, Orlando FL, for six weeks. It drove me a bit batty. I made a video about it: Beige

Last month, I found myself in the same predicament again and decided to continue the saga.

gorillas playing at the zoo.................vulture freezing his tootsies off

Made trip to the Lincoln Park Zoo. The gorillas were playing a game. The huge male silverback would take a scrap of fabric they had in with them and throw it over his head to hide himself completely from the little baby gorilla. The baby would pause, looking, then attack the big male and take the fabric off him. They do a couple laps around the pen and do it again. Unbelievable to see a huge mountain of male wild-beast hiding himself under a shiny piece of fabric. Pure awesome.

Quest for the Church of Peanut Butter and Jelly

Synchronicities. Happenstances. Alignments.

It has become clear to me (at 4:33am) that the next step of my life's journey must feature peanut butter and jelly prominently. One can question the logic 'til the cows come home but one must not ignore a sign. an omen. certainly not three of them.

The First Occurrence:
This afternoon, while browsing through the photos celebrating the charades theme-day on Whiskerino (a fantastic site of beard growing camaraderie) I came across a photo that caused me to laugh aloud. It was this one from sir jellobeard:

fine.
then.

The Second Occurrence:
I was watching the frickin Jimmy Fallon Show (ugh) which i have secretly started to tolerate purely for watching people play games like charades. Today was Taboo. and Jimmy was trying to guess a word (comma) that was described by his teammate as something that goes between two words. Jimmy guessed "peanut butter and jelly". I laughed aloud for the first time ever while inflicting that show on myself.

ok.
hm.
THEN.

The Third Time's a Charm:
I was going back to check out some more episodes of Black Books which i cannot get enough of and Manny is eating toast in the bathtub, squirting jelly on't from a pump liquid soap bottle and then Dylan Moran gets all frazzled and starts threatening people bodily with jellied toast. hilarious.

SO.
clearly.

I am meant to find some way to include peanut butter and jelly more prominently in my life. Open myself to what peanut butter and jelly has to offer.

finally. something to do on my day off.

After having this sketchbook for just over a year, all the pages are filled and it's time to start a new one. The time spans from a month before my big move to Chicago through the first year. Interesting times. Framed Art for Sale

Drawings for Sale. As seen in Manhattan gallery show.

Pen and Ink drawings on paper. Both sides of a sheet of paper for the subtle effect of the figures being submerged in the paper. Most framed in 9"x 14" frames, between 2 sheets of glass so light can pass through from the back to highlight more of the hidden drawing. $150 each. Horizontal piece, "bunny", is framed 14"x 17".

Open to haggling.

Will definitely exchange piece for new Guess starlet style jeans in dark blue size 28.

Chronicles of Inspiration

When I was about 6 or 7, maybe 8, I would spend the the beginnings and ends of weekends on the Vermont Transit bus betwixt my parents. I had a walkman with some tapes of my mother's and my own to bide the time: Paul Winter's album of whale + soprano sax duets, The Talking Heads, Tiffany, and Kate Bush. One Christmas, when i was maybe 8, i think it was my father, got me a new 110 camera. You know, the flat rectangular kind. On one of those trips, I had one Kate Bush album or other cranked on my walkman and was overcome by the late afternoon sky outside the bus windows. Especially the sky and clouds outside the opposite windows. I grabbed my camera, swimming in Kate Bush singing about wolves and clouds and Heathcliff and I tried my best to capture the euphoria i was feeling. I only had the dimmest of realizations that the folks on the other side of the aisle might be a bit confused as to what i was up to and why i was taking pictures of them. But I felt no shame, i kept snapping until the light had changed or until the album ended, with that succession of octave tones, and i had to flip the tape.

I looked about like this at the time:
